Identity/Brand

Designing a logo, and an entire visual identity for an organisation is always an exciting and fun challenge. It’s quite something to encapsulate their essential message, personality and aspirations—into one image. This is without question my favourite type of design work.

The App and Logo’s target audience is school kids from 4–16. The customers are school authoritites and teachers. The concept of a cube came up after the first round of concepts—which were actually approved—so we agreed to a round 2. Getting the letters onto the cube so that they logically fitted together as a 3D shape, presented a design challenge—but my solution to making them fit together actually brought about an interesting font design. I made a paper prototype, stuck onto the sides of a Rubik Cube, and hand drew and re-drew the letters onto it until they worked. This was how the interesting new type-forms came about! I played heavily on the German theme here in terms of typography and colour. I also went for a very efficient and neat, but still fun logomark—conceptualised in seconds on a notepad during a client phone call. full case study>

The client’s logo originally used a simple + symbol between the names, but I reworked the whole logo and used positive & negative space to more subtly and interestingly imply the ‘plus’ instead. I also designed their stationery, marketing folder, business card, and website.

This was part of a greater all-in-one website and print project that I designed, as Lead Designer at a web agency. The brief was to communicate concepts of Processes, Pharmaceuticals, movement and dynamism. The green was a nod to medicine. I did several concepts on this project, as you can see, and unusually, I liked most of them.
